Marco’s tattoo of the 46th Hexagram from the I Ching is indicative of his personality. The hexagram is called, “Ascending”, or “pushing upward”, and is commonly interpreted as the hexagram that represents one’s struggle towards something greater. Much like Chris Wallace, Marco is aware of something greater than himself and he wants to find it.
This yearning can be reflected in Marco’s passion for extreme sports. Marco is a prize-winning surfer, a seasoned practitioner of muay-thai and yoga, and loves to go rock climbing. All of these activities he prefers to do in solitude. Marco feels that by pushing himself to his limits he can better commune with nature and hope to connect with something deeper.
At least that’s what he tells himself.
In reality, Marco has already had exactly two soul-wrenching rollercoaster transcendent experiences in his life, and both have one thing in common: a girl named Elyse.
The first was simple: Marco loved her and she loved him (but not as much).
The second was not simple. Marco spent all of last year helping his roommate, Adam Archer, struggle to come to terms with his pending death from a brain tumor. To complicate things, Marco had to hold his tongue as he watched Elyse fall in love with Adam. Since the death of Adam, Marco’s relationship with Elyse has become very complex, to say the least.
